DESCRIPTION:Durgesh hails from a legendary lineage of Kathak dance and will be bringing his art to the Raga Mala Stage. In addition to his show\, he will also offer workshops and a baithak (like a fireside chat) for anyone who wants to learn more about his story and the incredible North Indian dance form he’s the torchbearer of.\n\n\n\n\nRaga Mala Calgary was founded in 1975 and has helped establish other similar organizations in Edmonton\, Vancouver\, Saskatoon\, Winnipeg\, and Toronto. In 2025\, we’re celebrating 50 years of bringing Canada and Calgary the best of Indian classical music and dance. Our founder was awarded the Order of Canada for his contributions in 2013.

SUMMARY:Hong Kong Journey of Time - Piu Sik Parade
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by the Cheung Chau Bun Festival\, our event will feature a 15-foot-tall Bun Tower 🏰\, over 600 Ping An Buns 🍞\, and live cultural performances\, including a Dragon’s Beard Candy demonstration 🍬. The parade (2:30pm – 3:30pm)will be a key part of the celebration\, bringing together different communities to share and promote cultural appreciation in Calgary. \nThe Bun Festival itself is a vibrant celebration deeply rooted in Taoist traditions\, featuring a towering 16-foot Bun Mountain built from real buns\, which are later distributed to the elderly on May 18. These buns are believed to bring good luck\, peace\, and safety.

For example\, they have worked with dance troupes to combine guzheng music with graceful choreography\, partnered with calligraphy artists to create a fusion of visual and auditory arts\, and collaborated with choirs to explore the interplay between vocal and instrumental music\, creating unforgettable artistic experiences. \nCultural Exchange Projects:\nTo promote mutual understanding and respect among cultures\, the ensemble has actively engaged with cultural groups from other countries\, participating in various cultural exchange programs. They have shared the stage with Korean traditional percussion ensembles\, presenting a vibrant dialogue between Eastern and Western musical traditions\, even though no joint performance was held. Additionally\, the ensemble has performed alongside players of the Korean Gayageum\, showcasing a fascinating dialogue between two similar yet distinct East Asian string instruments and broadening the ensemble members’ artistic horizons. \nExchange Programs with Chinese Guzheng Institutes:\nNotably\, the ensemble has hosted two exchange and collaborative performances with Professor Lei and her group of over 50 students from the Guzheng Department of Xi’an Conservatory of Music in Calgary. These exchanges significantly enhanced the ensemble’s performance standards and deepened their knowledge of guzheng artistry. Through collaboration with professional institutions\, ensemble members gained invaluable guidance and experience\, further advancing the development of guzheng artistry in the local community.

To providing Multi-Cultural Chinese experiences in our Chinatown\, in our cuisines\, performances\, martial arts. To providing essential workers\, to artist\, scientist\, olympic medalist. \nOver 5000 years\, the Chinese philosophy of 修身，齊家，治國，平天下。 Cultivate oneself; Manage one’s family; Govern the country; and Bring peace to the world.\nOver 5000 years\, the Chinese philosophy of character is to be Humble and self sustaining.\nFor over 100 years \, Chinatown were Humble and self sustaining\, \nBut this year\, we would like to Celebrate and share Chinatown ‘s hidden stories\, that were behind the walls of our 100 years Association\, Tongs\, Familys and Chinatown architectures\, with our Walking Museum. \nAlso\, we would like to share our Senior’s Wellness experiences with other seniors in Calgary.\nWe would like to share our Chinatown New blood’s trends and experiences with our new Arts & Murals\, with our Bubble Tea & Desserts\, with our new trends \, with our new technology. \nThis year\, we would like to invite all the Calgarian to come into Chinatown\, experiences our morning exercise\, experiences our cuisines\, experience our arts\, experience our new technology & new media \, experience your experience with our experience.
