An Evening with Kim Thúy
Parents and members of the community are warmly invited to join us for a special evening with acclaimed Vietnamese-born Canadian author Kim Thúy on May 27. This unique event offers the opportunity to hear her speak in person and to take part in a rich and engaging conversation about her story as a refugee and immigrant to Canada, as well as about the importance of language, identity, and belonging.
Kim Thúy is an internationally acclaimed writer and a Member of the Order of Canada (2023) “for amplifying the voices and experiences of migrants and refugees as an acclaimed novelist on Canada’s literary scene”. She has also been named Chevalière de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in France and her work has earned numerous honours. Her first novel Ru, which captures her and her family’s history as “boat people”, her immigration journey, and a celebration of the people who first welcomed them to Canada, was awarded the Governor General’s Literary Award.
An Evening with Kim Thúy will invite reflections on how language shapes our identity and perception, as well as how lived and cultural experiences influence the way we see and think critically about the world today. Her work invites thoughtful exploration of voice, memory, truth, and the acceptance of others.
Many of our students had the opportunity to meet Kim Thúy virtually in 2020 and in 2021. This year, we are delighted to welcome her back in person and to share this exceptional experience with our community.
We hope you will join us for what promises to be an inspiring and memorable evening. Limited tickets available.
